Original Title: Windows 7 Theme problem - Bing Dynamic (RSS Theme)

I have used many of the new Windows 7 themes without problems, but I can't get the RSS theme called Bing Dynamic to work. When I download it and open it, all that's in the theme is the empty theme (no images), so it leaves my desktop black. I thought it might start working after waiting a minute for it to download an image, but it's been over 30 minutes and still no image. It doesn't have the RSS symbol on the theme in my list like it does on my friend's computer (where it does work), but for the picture album, it has the right location: a web address for a theme server. How do I get it to work?

Hi geobrad7,

 

Where did you download the theme from?

 

Please follow these instructions to get the theme to work.

 

a.    To use this theme, download and double-click on the download link here: Fresh wallpaper, updated automatically

b.    Click on Save File.

c.    A window will appear asking for subscribe to RSS feeds. You just have to click on the download attachments and wait for themes to be downloaded to your system.

d.    Visit theme server page to view and download these backgrounds. http://themeserver.microsoft.com/default.aspx?p=Bing&c=Desktop&m=en-US

 

Unlike other theme packs you cannot unzip this one to extract the images, as it is a RSS feed theme which downloads the images to your PC.Also, since this is a background process, it will take considerable time to download the high-resolution photos within the feed.

e.    Wait for a while till the theme downloads images one after the other to your Computer. Till then you may see a black background on your desktop.

 

f.     Once the photos are downloaded, the theme does not automatically refresh to queue the new photos in the slideshow. As such, log out from the computer and login back to check.

Ihave the same issue.  When I dowmload the theme file and open it I don't get the window asking for subscribe to RSS feedsor the option to click on the download attachments and wait for themes to be downloaded to my system. Any ideas?

Never mind...got it fixed.  The problem is with CCleaner. 

1.  Delete the Bing RSS theme and the go to this link:  http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showtopic=29310. 

2.  Do what Johnny_V says in the first post. 

3.  Then go to Internet Explorer and delete the RSS theme feed in your Favorites. 

4.  Re-download the Bing RSS theme and install. 

5.  It will ask to to download the attachments.  Fixed!

I am also experiencing this issue. I have tried several different RSS picture feeds (including the bing dynamic and insects dynamic) however it seems as if the images are never downloaded to my computer.

I've tried all of the suggestions here, I am the administrator, I've tired logging on and off and also restarting the computer completely.

When I click on the 'Desktop Background' link, it shows the url correctly in the drop down box (picture location) however where it should be showing the images all it says is 'no items match your search' - I have been waiting for the images to download for that last 4 hours.

When I install the theme it asks if I want to 'download attachments' to which I say yes. I have double checked all my settings in internet explorer, I have "Automatically check feeds and web slices for updates" enabled. I do not have CCleaner installed or anything else that I can see that would modify/delete temporary files.

ETA: tried it on another computer in the house (on the same internet connection) and it worked immediately, so rules out any connection issues. Also, works when I create a secondary user account and try it on that account.

Any suggestions?

I am having the same problem after installing  Office 2010 in my Win-7-64 OS and no way to work.  Before I had Office 2007 and no problem. Could it be something related to this?

what if i wanted to print some of the photo's to hang in my grandmothers bathroom (her request) plus i kind of like a lot of them as well. where can i find the individual .jpg form in my computers folders?

Microsoft report it has been retired.

Pity, it was the best they did.

No reason really to change it or retire it other than 'can't be bothered syndrome'
